VISA credit card users will still be able to use their card when shopping with Amazon.

The two companies have come to an agreement that means the cards won’t be banned.

Amazon had been due to ban the cards last month in a dispute over fees.

But the shopping giant wound back on the threat just days before it was due to come into effect.

Now the pair have come to an agreement that means that there will be no ban in future and shoppers can continue using their card as normal.

Amazon told Reuters: “We’ve recently reached a global agreement with Visa that allows all customers to continue using their Visa credit cards in our stores.”

The dispute centred around what Amazon previously said was “the high fees Visa charges for processing credit card transactions”.

Announcing the plans last year, an Amazon spokesperson had said: “The cost of accepting card payments continues to be an obstacle for businesses striving to provide the best prices for customers.

“These costs should be going down over time with technological advancements, but instead they continue to stay high or even rise.

“As a result of Visa’s continued high cost of payments, we regret that Amazon.co.uk will no longer accept UK-issued Visa credit cards as of 19 January, 2022.”

Visa debit cards and other credit cards were unnafected.

Visa had said it was “disappointed” in Amazon’s decision, adding that it would try and come to a resolution to avoid the ban.

Scrapping the ban means shoppers with Visa credit cards will no longer have to find another payment method for shopping with Amazon.

Some customers were offered £20 credit for switching to a new card before the ban was scrapped.

According to Amazon’s website you can use the following payment methods:

  • Visa credit and debit
  • Mastercard credit and debit
  • American Express
  • Eurocard
  • UK based Maestro

Anyone who has already switched their payment method over to another card can revert back to Visa credit card if they want.

You can update your default payment method via your Amazon account.

You can change your details on the “manage your subscription” page in your Amazon account.
