Apple has released an urgent software update called iOS 17.1.2.
The update includes ‘important security fixes’, and is recommended ‘for all users’, according to the tech giant.
‘Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your Apple product’s security,’ Apple said.
Here’s how to download the iOS 17.1.2 update on your iPhone.

iOS 17.1.2 went live last night, and is available now for the iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.
The update addresses flaws in Apple’s WebKit – its open source Web content engine for browsers and other applications.
‘These latest OS updates show that attackers continue to focus on exploiting the framework that downloads and presents web-based content,’ said Michael Covington, VP of Strategy at Jamf.
‘The latest bugs could lead to both data leakage and arbitrary code execution and appear to be tied to targeted attacks that are common against high-risk users.’
To download the update on your iPhone, simply head to your iPhone Settings and scroll down to General.
Tap Software Update and you’ll see the option to install iOS 17.1.2 now.
The download should only take a few minutes to install.

If you’d like these security updates to install automatically in the future, you can also turn on automatic updates.
To do this, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Automatic Updates, then turn on Download iOS Updates. Turn on Install iOS Updates.
Your device will then be updated automatically to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
‘Though these patches validate that Apple devices are not immune to cyber threats, the patching process is helping to reduce the attack surface,’ Mr Covington added.
‘Now that the patches are issued, it is up to users, and organisations that utilise Apple devices for work, to update their devices and monitor for compliance to ensure that all critical devices are no longer vulnerable as soon as possible.’
