Apple has released a new software update for iPhone 8 and later, called iOS 16.5. The update has several important bug fixes, as well as a range of new features
The software update was quietly released by Apple last week.
‘Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your Apple product’s security,’ the tech giant said.
‘This update includes enhancements, bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone.’
In terms of bug fixes, the update resolves an issue where Spotlight – Apple’s system-wide search feature – became unresponsive.
It also addresses an issue where Podcasts in CarPlay did not load content, while an issue where Screen Time settings were not syncing across all devices has also been fixed.
Aside from the bug fixes, iOS 16.5 includes several new features.
Apple has launched a new collection of Pride Wallpapers to ‘honour the LGBTQ+ community and culture.’
A dedicated Sports tab has also been added in Apple News, giving sports fans easy access to stories, scores, rankings and more for the teams and leagues they follow.
To download the update on your iPhone, simply open the Settings app, and then scroll down to General.
Tap Software Update and you’ll see the option to Download and Install iOS 16.5 on your device, provided it’s an iPhone 8 or later.
The release comes just weeks before Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conerence (WWDC) where it’s widely rumoured to be launching its first mixed reality headset.
The company has shared the schedule for this year’s event at Apple Park in California, which runs from June 5-9.
According to an invitee who received the schedule, day one of the event will include a ‘Special Evening Activity’ that Apple said attendees ‘won’t want to miss’.
There will also be a smaller event on Tuesday for visitors to ‘discuss some of the latest announcements’ with Apple execs, the company said.
