DRIVERS raced to a petrol station in rural Devon to fill up with fuel costing just 169p a litre.

The price at the Shell filling station at Trago Mills, in Newton Abbot is 20p cheaper than the UK’s national average according to Metro, which recently reached a record high.

According to the RAC, the average price of fuel today is 191.24p, meaning the petrol station was 21.34p cheaper.

The UK’s fuel prices have been on the rise due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has caused oil prices to soar.

Most of Europe relies on Russia’s oil and gas reserves for its own supply, however leaders have pledged to ban oil imports to punish Moscow which has seen prices skyrocket due to an increased global demand.

While this petrol station might be cheaper than your closest forecourt, you shouldn’t drive miles and miles out of your way for cheaper fuel.

Using extra fuel is likely to cancel out any potential saving you might make.

How can I save money on fuel?

Many people need to drive their car every day – especially for getting to and from work or taking the kids to school.

You can talk to your boss about travel concerns and they may be able to help arrange alternative transport or might let you work from home.

If possible try and take public transport or walk.
