‘Turn off the autoplay’ warns Amazon Fire TV Stick user praised for trick to avoid annoying ‘extra advert’ update

AN Amazon Fire TV Stick user has taken to Reddit to share an advert trick.

The advice was posted to a popular Reddit forum called r/firetvstick.

“Did anyone else start getting full screen video ads when booting up your Fire Stick?

“I know these are cheap because Amazon wants to serve ads, but damn for me this is annoying enough to just sell them and get a better device altogether,” wrote one user of the forum.

This question was met with 44 comments and a lot of upvotes.

“If you go into settings, you can turn off the autoplay on these ads.

“But unfortunately you still get a still image. An easy solution is to just hit the home button twice.

“It’ll immediately bring you to the home screen and bypass these ads,” responded another user.

This answer was upvoted four times, making it one of the most popular responses in the comments.

“Go to setting preference and featured content and turn both options off,” another user suggested.

Some users responded that the change had made them want to move away from Fire Stick.

“Well thank you Amazon for giving me the final push to get an Apple TV set,” wrote one person.

“This happened to me and it was the final straw that made me switch to Apple TV,” another said.

The fullscreen video ads started appearing last year after an update.

According to AFTVNews, it occurs because the default cursor of remotes has been set to hover over ads.

Turning off autoplay won’t stop the ads but it will make them a static image rather than a video, which some users seem to prefer.
