Jeremy Hunt announced in his Autumn Statement that the Van Benefit Charge and Fuel Benefit Charges — taxes on the personal use of company vehicles — would rise in April 2023 in line with the Consumer Price Index — currently at 11.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Auto Trader figures show the average cost of a used Transit van on its site has rocketed seven per cent to £19,429 in the past 12 months.

And new ones are up even higher — 14 per cent to £33,821.

He said: “White van men like me are already paying through the nose without slapping us with extra charges.

“It won’t be long before they’ve bled us dry.”

Auto Trader added: “The Chancellor’s latest tax grab will win no friends among van drivers when their costs have gone up so much already.”
