TOYS R Us has revealed when it will return to the UK high street and promised the new stores will be “completely different”.

The toy retailer will open its brand new shops in 2023, and has shared the first details of what customers should expect.

It will be “a completely different experience” to what shoppers remember, Toys R Us boss Louis Mittoni told The Sun.

Shoppers will be able to browse and play with toys before ordering them digitally in store – in a similar concept to the way Argos works.

Mr Mittoni said: “This space allows our shoppers to get hands-on with toy products, being able to play and interact with the products before purchasing them from an equally large warehouse at the back of these stores.”

He added: “There will be nothing like these stores anywhere in the world”.

There will be up to 40,000 products available, which can be delivered “within minutes”.

Toy brands will include Lego, Barbie-owner Mattel, Hasbro, Lol Surprise, Spin Master and Bluey.

There are plans for larger stores as well as smaller branches, but a list of areas hasn’t been announced yet.

If you can’t wait until then, Toys R Us will launch online in a few months, with the full digital store ready for the busy Christmas season.

You can visit a Toys R Us landing page at the moment, but all shoppers can do for now is subscribe to the mailing list and play the free web game while they wait.

The iconic chain collapsed in 2018 and closed all of its 100 UK branches, but announced plans for a relaunch in October last year.

The UK relaunch follows successful attempts to make a comeback in the US and Australia.
