MPs demand explanation from Boris Johnson over scrapping of ban that was part of 2019 Conservative manifesto
Conservative MPs are organising a revolt against the prime minister over the scrapping of a ban on the imports and sale of fur and foie gras.
Government sources have confirmed to the Guardian that reports of a U-turn were “broadly correct”, despite the fact the bans were part of the 2019 Conservative manifesto aimed at bringing swing voters on side. A Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) spokesperson said the government was still “fully committed to animal welfare”.
