Police say boy aged 3 died in hospital after being recovered from water in Newbury

A three-year-old boy drowned after falling into a canal in Newbury, Berkshire, police have said.

The child and his mother, who survived, went into water that reached a depth of about 3 metres (10ft), where the canal meets the River Kennet. Officers said it was not immediately clear how it had happened, though the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
