Stephanie, owner of party decorations company littlebig party.co.uk, says: “I like to use pretty paper plates with a bit of sparkle to make my dinner table festive.

“Pick a silver or gold colour, then you can use it again for birthdays or other events.”
Claire Douglas, home stylist at clairedouglasstyling.co.uk, also advises choosing new accessories with care.
She says: “Avoid linens or tableware with snowmen or Christmas pudding patterns and stick with more generic designs — then you can reuse them.
“I like to add height by hanging a curtain pole from the ceiling above the table, covering it with foraged greenery.

“You could even hang some baubles from the pole to make it more festive.”
Vittoria Veltri, a chef and events organiser (@pastaandplay on Insta), says: “When I want to make the table look festive, I head to charity shops to pick up props such as vases and candle holders.
“I would also recommend heading out on a walk to look for branches to place on your table.”
Hema Stewart, the owner of sustainable gift wrap company curlicue.uk, says: “Use offcuts of wrapping paper to add colour.
“Cut out tree shapes and stars and place them on your table.
“Something simple like paper chains can be very effective draped along the centre.
