Mobile network Three is back up and running following a two-hour outage that left thousands of customers unable to make or receive calls.

According to Down Detector, a website that monitors outages, the problems started at about 10:00 GMT, prompting more than 3,000 complaints across the UK.

Just over two hours later, Three confirmed it had restored its services but did not reveal the nature of the fault.

Its customer services team tweeted: ‘Three’s services are now been [sic] restored for affected customers following a short outage earlier today.

‘A small proportion of the customer base was impacted. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the issue.’

Hundreds of Three customers took to Twitter to complain about the outage.

Three suffered similar technical problems in October last year.

The mobile network was forced to apologise to customers following a seven-hour outage that left users across the UK unable to make or receive calls.

It did not reveal the cause of the problem.

Three’s technical difficulties at the end of last year followed global outages for social media giants Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat around the same time.

In October 2021, Facebook-owned apps crashed for almost seven hours during a massive worldwide crash.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger went down after a faulty update disconnected Facebook’s servers from the internet and brought all of its services to a halt.
