Unlock more storage

To unlock more storage, you’ll have to delete some things.

But that doesn’t mean your precious pictures and music have to be culled.

Instead, you can try deleting the large attachments that people have sent you over iMessage.

For example, lengthy videos of a pal’s pet that was entertaining at the time but does not need to be taking up precious storage space.

To do this, open your Settings > General > iPhone Storage and review and delete large attachments.

Generally, storage usage does not affect an iPhone’s performance.

But if your iPhone storage is rammed full, your device cannot cache properly – which can reduce the speed of the handset.

Extend battery life

To help extend your battery life, you’ll want to navigate to Background App Refresh in Settings and turn it off.

According to Apple, “when Background App Refresh is enabled, apps can check for new data and updates even when you’re not using them, which can drain your battery and use up your data.

“Disabling Background App Refresh can help to improve your iPhone’s battery life and performance.

“It can also save you data if you’re on a limited data plan.”

Reduce Motion

To help lengthen the battery life and sharpen the iPhone’s speed, you can ‘reduce motion’ of certain effects.

To do this, find Accessibility in Settings > Motion > Turn on Reduce Motion.

Then turn off Auto play for messages effects and videos.

This reduces visual motion on your iPhone screen, and will limit effects such as:

  • Parallax effect of wallpaper, apps, and alerts
  • Screen transitions
  • Siri animations
  • Typing autocompletion
  • Animated full-screen and bubble effects in the Messages app
  • Animated images on the Web and in apps

When this feature is switched on, you’ll have to manually play iMessage effects by tapping Replay below the message bubble.
