WHATSAPP is working on some huge changes to the app – including adding a special “stealth mode”.
There are eight major changes in the works, but three are particularly exciting.
WhatsApp regularly trials new features in the beta test version of the app.
And then the tech sleuths at WABetaInfo mine this app to uncover any changes.
The team has found a series of changing that are rolling out, in testing or in development.
One is a “stealth mode” that lets you hide when you’re online for the first time.
Another is the option to react to messages using any emoji.
Currently you’re limited to just six preselected emoji.
And a third exciting feature is the ability to silently exit groups without notifying everyone.
This could make it much easier to abandon those annoying group chats.

New WhatsApp changes
Here are some of the upcoming changes being developed right now.
- Message reactions using any emoji
- Custom avatars that you can use while on video calls
- The ability to delete messages for everyone within 2 days, 12 hours
- A “stealth mode” that hides your online status
- Redesigned context menu on Windows
- The ability to silently exit groups
- Blur tool for media on WhatsApp Desktop
- Planning a group icon editor on WhatsApp Desktop
Sadly we don’t have release dates for these features, so it’s unclear when they’ll land.
Some may take weeks or months to arrive on the general-release version of WhatsApp.
