THE iPhone 15 hit the shelves only last month, but many have held back from buying it in hopes the grass is greener with next year’s model.

Nothing has yet been confirmed regarding the iPhone 16 – or the mysterious ‘Ultra’ model – but here’s what onlookers are holding out for.

Longer battery life

Apple fanatics have voiced disappointment over the iPhone 15 lineup not drastically improving on the battery life of its predecessor.

While the iPhone 15s boast the additional capabilities of the new A17 Pro computer chip, Apple decided not to use it to increase the battery life.

Instead, the company used the extra power from the A17 Pro chip to boost gaming features, make file transfers 20x faster with USB-C, and enhance machine learning for photography and video.

However, a longer battery life would certainly make the iPhone 16 stand out from the rest.

Faster charging

A longer battery life and faster charging should go hand-in-hand, according to Apple fans.

Many hope that the future iPhone 16 models will support faster charging, finally competing with the likes of Samsung.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have a 27W charging limit – the same as the iPhone 14 Pro models.

That means you can charge from 0 per cent to 50 per cent in about 30 minutes, according to ZNet, while it takes about 90 minutes to two hours to charge fully if you have a 30W or higher charging brick.

However, Samsung offers 45W “super fast charging” that can charge 0 to 65 per cent in 30 minutes and charge fully in 57 minutes.

Onlookers believe Apple could easily enable 45W charging, like Samsung.

Touch ID on the power button

Folks were pretty keen for Apple to reintroduce the beloved Touch ID to the iPhone 15 models, having done away with the feature once Face ID rolled out.

Apple fans seemingly miss the fingerprint scanner, and want access to it alongside Face ID.

This is mainly for the times when Face ID is inconvenient, like when you’re wearing sunglasses, a hat or are simply at an awkward angle.

Now, there is talk of bringing it back, this time via the power button instead of the (now erased) home button.

A Touch ID power button is actually already a feature on the iPad Air (5th Generation).
