THERE has long been a misconception that in-game violence can lead to violence in the real world.

However, studies have shown that violent video games actually decrease real-world violence, as people would rather take their anger out in their games instead.

Fortnite's cartoony-style makes it popular with kids.

However, this message didn’t seem to make its way to the ears of The British Army which tried to get Fortnite players to enlist.

Fortnite is not a particularly violent video game. While you do take out other players, it has a very animated art style.

In the main mode, you play as a colourful character fighting against 99 others to see who will be the last one standing.

While you can use guns, knives, and rocket launchers in your assault, it is anything but realistic.

As such Fortnite is hugely popular with children and young people, with over 60% of the player base being 24 and under.

This is why people were shocked when the official Army Jobs Twitter account posted that there would be a livestream with two popular streamers to promote their new map.

Yung Filly and Elz The Witch were set to take part in a match on an army-style island designed to entice young players.

Players can create custom maps in-game; however, there are certain rules that need to be abided by.

As spotted by Eurogamer, one of the rules states: “Commercial content and sponsors must follow all the content rules above, and the Epic Content Guidelines, and must not […] promote enrollment in the military.”

The custom map has not been made live to players and Epic Games has said it is “undergoing moderation”.

The Army has since removed all of the posts relating to the island and the live stream, and has not commented on the situation.

The streamers have also removed their posts and there is no notice as to whether the livestream will go ahead.
