OUR EXPERT PICK FOR JULY

Samsung 65-inch AU9000 4K TV, £649 (save £250)

It may not be the latest TV from Samsung, but this 65-inch screen Samsung for such a reasonable price is truly a catch.

The company’s upscaling technology works quite well in this mid-range TV, delivering a lovely picture performance when upscaling most programs and films.

The Tizen smart TV interface is also excellent here, making the navigational experience a breeze.

Add a beautifully slim frame and interesting gaming features, and you have one of the best deals available on the market right now.

We’ve earmarked this as our current favourite TV deal.

The best 4K UK TV deals this July

TV deals are listed in order of screen size.

1. JVC 32-inch LT-CA690 HD Ready Smart TV with Google Assistant, £149 (save £70.99) – Currys

15

What’s the deal? A 31% price drop on this smaller-sized, budget-friendly set from JVC.

Why we love it: Because even though this is pretty much as cheap as it gets with news TVs, this is by no means a no-frills telly.

It’s not 4K, but that doesn’t matter with a screen of 32-inches: you wouldn’t appreciate the Ultra HD resolution at this size.

The in-built smart platform means that you’ve got an array of services like Netflix, iPlayer and ITV Hub at your fingertips.

But our favourite aspect to the cheap-as-chips LT-CA690 is the fact it’s got a built-in voice assistant – at this point, operating your TV without a remote is a serious boon.

Make sure you pick this up while it’s £70 cheaper.

  • JVC 32-inch LT-CA690 HD Ready Smart TV with Google Assistant, £149 (save £70.99) – Currys

2. JVC 40-inch Fire TV Smart Full HD TV, £199 (save £100.99) – buy from Amazon

15

What’s the deal? An epic 34% discount on the 40-inch set from JVC’s Fire TV range, which uses Amazon’s Fire streaming platform.

Why we love it: Because this already-affordable telly has just become an undeniable budget gem, priced on the right side of £200.

It doesn’t have 4K, but that’s not critical with a TV of size. What it does have is a streaming platform with access to Netflix, Disney+ and (of course) Amazon Prime.

You can also use the mic button on the remote to get Alexa to operate your TV for you.

  • JVC 40-inch Fire TV Smart Full HD TV, £199 (save £100.99) – buy from Amazon

2. Toshiba 43-inch UK3163DB 4K TV, £228 (save £151) – Amazon

15

What’s the deal? An impressive 40% drop on an already affordable 43-inch 4K television from Toshiba.

Why we love it: This is by no means an advanced television, but it offers a lot for the new sub-£250 price.

The TRU Picture Engine will automatically upscale and finetune whatever you’re watching, and the built-in Alexa mic will let you call on the services of Amazon’s voice assistant.

In addition, the Dolby Vision and HDR support mean this set can provide a crisp, smooth image with solid contrast for the price.

The Toshiba UK3163DB features an easy-to-use interface and support for the most popular streaming apps, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube.

However, some streaming service apps are absent, including Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus. If you want to play those, you’ll have to buy a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick.

3. LG 43-inch UP75006LF 4K HDR TV, £272.99 (save £224.99) – Amazon

This 43-inch set from the hugely respected LG is now on the right side of £300

15

This 43-inch set from the hugely respected LG is now on the right side of £300

What’s the deal? A whopping discount of 45% on the 43-inch set from LG’s UP7500 series.

Why we love it: Although this is a pretty entry-level line of televisions from LG, there’s a couple of things that make this telly an absolute gem at under £300.

Firstly, it comes from LG, the second-biggest selling manufacturer on the UK TV market.

Secondly, its HDR (high dynamic range) function takes the 4K image and further boosts the colours, contrasts and overall quality.

This TV also works with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, but you’ll have to purchase LG’s Magic Remote separately to take advantage of its voice control capabilities.

Finally, like every new LG TV, this model runs on the WebOS smart platform, which is arguably the most versatile smart TV system currently on the market.

4. Panasonic 43-inch LX650 4K Smarty TV, £329.99 (save £70) – Panasonic

15

What’s the deal? Panasonic are currently running a nice little summer offer on its entry-level LX650 line, with savings on the smallest 43-inch model running at almost 18%.

Why we love it: These TVs tick all the requisite boxes at this price point – a standout feature has to be the widely respected Android TV platform.

At the new price of £329.99, the 43-inch LX650 television is way more affordable and likely has a lot more mass appeal, with Panasonic already describing it as one of their most popular buys.

5. Samsung 50-inch Q65A 4K HDR QLED TV, £549 (save £250) – Amazon

QLEDs keep getting more and more affordably, especially smaller options like this 50-inch Samsung set

15

QLEDs keep getting more and more affordably, especially smaller options like this 50-inch Samsung set

What’s the deal? Amazon have knocked 31% off the asking price of this 50-inch Samsung 4K TV – which happens to be a QLED. More on that below.

Why we love it: Because QLEDs offer a level of picture quality that will keep most TV-watchers very, very happy indeed – the ‘quantum dot’ tech takes the 4K picture and further boosts the levels of colours and contrast quality.

These tellies used to be top-of-the-line, but since Samsung’s Neo-QLEDs were launched on the market last year, they’ve started to tumble in price. We’re not complaining.

The Q65A model comes with built-in Bixby, Alexa & Google Assistant capabilities.

Additionally, Samsung’s Dual LED TV technology balances warm and cool tones to provide an optimal viewing experience.

And the Q65A’s Object Tracking Sound LITE uses artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and your TV’s bottom speakers to simulate overhead sounds.

Finally, this model comes with a multi view feature, which enables the simultaneous, split-screen vision of two different channels or apps.

Perfect to check a walkthrough while you’re playing.

6. Hisense 50-inch AE7000FTUK 4K HDR TV, £279 (save £170) – Amazon

One of our favourite budget TVs on sale right now is Hisense's 50-inch AE7000 - it comes with built-in Alexa

15

One of our favourite budget TVs on sale right now is Hisense’s 50-inch AE7000 – it comes with built-in Alexa

What’s the deal? An impresive 27% price drop on the already cheap 50-inch set from Hisense’s AE7000 line.

Why we love it: Because in terms of size, a 50-inch TV is more than enough for lots of people’s viewing spaces – and to get one for under £370 is a real triumph.

Hisense might not be one of the major TV-makers on the market, but this television will still capably deliver 4K-level visuals, DTS surround sound – it also comes with built-in Alexa.

This model comes with UHD upscale technology, which will try to ‘upgrade’ the lower resolution of some clips as close as possible to 4K.

The AE7000 also offers virtual surround sound via Hisense’s DTS Studio Sound capabilities, and HDR Technology to enhance detail by maximising contrast and colour accuracy.

7. LG 50-inch LED UQ75, £359 (save £190) – Amazon

15

What’s the deal? An 19% discount on another 50-inch set, this one from the second-biggest selling TV brand on the market.

Why we love it: Because LG enjoys a reputation as an absolutely stellar TV manufacturer – in particular, its streaming platform is known for how slick and easy to use it is.

That, with the HDR function, makes this a television that will keep most viewers in the year 2022 very happy indeed.

With a 60 Hz refresh rate, this TV is also a solid choice when it comes to gaming. LG’s AI Sound technology also helps to make the viewing experience more immersive.

And with a pleasant, modern design, the UQ75 will undoubtedly look stylish in your living room.

8. Philips 50-inch PUS7556/12 4K HDR TV, £299 (save £60) – Currys

15

This 50-inch 4K HDR television from Philips has been given a hefty £190 discount

What’s the deal? A decent 20% price drop on a 50-inch set from Philips’ PUS7556 line.

Why we love it: Because this offers you the chance to scale up your TV at no particularly great cost.

Let’s not forget that just a few years ago 50-inch screens were considered pretty epic in size – and if you’ve got enough viewing space but your spend is limited, this is well worth consideration.

The Philips PUS7556, in particular, comes with three 2.0 HDMI ports, which combined with a 60 Hz refresh rate, make it ideal for gaming.

Image is also enhanced by Philips’ P5 Picture Perfect Engine and HDR technology, with support for both Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

The result? Boosted colour and contrast throughout different viewing experiences.

Finally, Philips has replaced the older OS-based on Android TV here with its proprietary SAPHI (Speed Agility Performance Heritage Integration) system, which offers a renewed interface and designed to be faster and more responsive.

On top of this, it has Google Assistant and voice control, and with 120fps and HDMI 2.1, it is absolutely perfect for smooth, responsive gaming.

Add solid upscaling features and full-bodied sound capabilities, and you get one of the best flagship TVs available right now.

LG's NanoCell tech gives a clear picture for a reasonable price

15

LG’s NanoCell tech gives a clear picture for a reasonable price

What’s the deal? This LG model from 2021 currently has a wonderful £360 off on Amazon.

Why we love it: It’s hard to find a good quality TV at under £500, LG combines their high-quality screens with a reasonable price point.

The 55UP81006LA is powered by one of LG’s newer quad-core processors, which constantly works to refine both picture and sound.

Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control capabilities are also built-in, to provide an easier navigation experience.

And of course, LG’s webOS smart platform is hard to beat in the world of smart TVs.

11. Hisense 65-inch 65A6GTUK 4K TV, £449 (save £350) – Amazon

This Hisense QLED TV is a steal with almost half off

15

Why we love it: There is nothing better than bagging a bargain on a high-quality QLED 4K for under £500 – especially with Dolby Vision built-in.

Hisense has built a reputation for manufacturing mid-range TVs at affordable prices, and the 65A6GTUK makes no exception.

With QLED and 4K UHD upscaling technologies, this TV will tick most boxes for casual viewers, and the 60Hz refresh rate is a nice addition.

The 65A6GTUK model runs on the VIDAA U5 OS. Not the best in town, but it supports Alexa’s voice commands, as well as all major streaming apps.

12. Samsung AU9000 65-inch 4K, £649 (save £250) – Amazon

15

What’s the deal? A considerable 28% has been knocked off this TV, saving you £250.

Why we love it: a 65-inch screen from Samsung for such a reasonable price is rare to find. This telly is a great addition to any living room.

Samsung upscaling technology works quite well here, delivering a lovely picture performance when upscaling most programs and films.

The Tizen smart TV interface is also excellent here, making the navigational experience a breeze.

Add a beautifully slim frame and interesting gaming features, and you have one of the best deals available on the market right now.

13. JVC 65-inch LT-65CF810, £395 (save £44) – Currys

15

What’s the deal? This JVC mid-range model currently costs £44 less than its retail price.

Why we love it: It’s a 65-inch 4K TV under £500, and comes with most of the basic features would you expect from a 4K TV in 2022

Specifically, the JVC LT-65CF810 offers a 60 Hz refresh rate and HDR10 capabilities for a good viewing experience.

It also has three HDMI 2.1 ports, which is great if you need to connect multiple consoles and other devices to your TV.

And since it runs on Amazon’s Fire TV platform, it offers all the goodness you’d normally get from a Fire Stick device, including Alexa voice remote capabilities, and a variety of streaming apps.

What to look for when buying a TV

The Sun spoke to Henrik Schmidt, Head of Category TV at Currys, to find out what you should be looking for in a TV.

He said: “Consider investing in OLED / Neo QLED TVs as these technologies will provide the best picture quality.”

If you’re a gamer, Henrik recommends looking out for HDMI 2.1 & 120Hz TVs to make sure your TV can keep up with the refresh rate of newer consoles.

“Having a larger TV will keep it relevant for longer mitigating the need to upgrade it for a larger one,” said Henrik, “8K resolution is also growing in popularity and we expect to see more 8K content as the time goes.”

How much to spend on a TV

Spending money on a TV can be daunting but Henrik recommends sticking to your budget and what you are looking for.

He said: “Whilst most suppliers offer the best technology panels available, they have different USPs.

“If having a truly immersive experience an important factor, perhaps exploring Philips’ OLED+ Ambilight TVs is the right thing to do.

“When it comes to OLED technology, LG has made some great advancements.”

Make sure you know what you’re looking for and how much you’re willing to spend and you can’t go far wrong.

Where are the best TV deals?

The good news is that there’s actually a pretty small number of online retailers that stock the best TV deals.

Competition is fierce among these stores, and when it comes to TV deals, you’ll often see them ruthlessly price-match each other.

This is especially the case during hectic sales periods like Black Friday and Boxing Day.

How to get the best TV deal

We’ve got a few pointers for you to help you in your search for the best TV deal out there:

  • Work out your budget in advance. TVs vary wildly in price – you can spend anywhere between £150 and, well, this much. If you figure out how much you’re willing to spend (with some wiggle room), you’ll find searching far easier.
  • Know the right size TV for your viewing space. The distance between you and your TV should be around 1.5 times the size of the screen. You might want to read our guide on how to measure a TV.
  • Be aware that retailers often fiercely price-match each other. During sales periods, you’ll often find the same price drop listed across several of the major stores (often with Amazon undercutting its rivals by £1).
  • Currys, a major TV retailer, offers a price-match guarantee. If you see a television that’s cheaper elsewhere, hold them to it!
  • Bookmark this article. We keep it regularly updated with all the best price drops we find online, so if you’re not looking for a cheap TV deal right now, you can always come back.
