TESCO has slashed the price of Christmas trees to £4 giving bargain hunters to stock up for next year’s festivities.

The supermarket has cut the cost of a 7 foot tall artificial evergreen tree by 90%, down from £40, in a bid to shift the festive stock.

One happy shopper was thrilled with her deal

An eagle-eyed shopper spotted the massive discount at her local store in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, and shared her find on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group.

Alongside a photo of the tree, she posted a copy of her receipt to prove the offer was real.

Keen not to pass on the bargains, they picked up two trees, which should have set them back £80.

Instead, £72 was knocked off the bill and the shopper only paid £8 in total.

Here’s how to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from Money.co.uk about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

They wrote: “Never got such a good deal before… Tesco Christmas tree down from £40 to £4. Got one for me and my Mum & Dad.”

Shoppers first spotted that Tesco had dropped the price of its Christmas trees on Christmas Eve.

The same tree – the 7ft evergreen tree – had been reduced to £20, working out at 50% off.

Tesco isn’t the only retailer flogging Christmas trees at a discounted price.

We found Argos was offering the festive fake firs for as low as £5 for a 6ft white christmas tree or £9 if you’d prefer it in green.

We’ve had a look and found the Tesco deals aren’t available online so you’ll have to head to your nearest store if you want to bag a bargain.

It’s also worth noting that the discounts are part of a clearance sale, which means stock varies depending on the store.

It might be worth calling your local branch before heading out to avoid disappointment. You can find your closest Tesco using the locator tool.

Shoppers have also been bagging bargains on Christmas crackers too as retailers such as Iceland and Sainsbury’s drop prices to make room for new stock.

Another customer took to Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group to post a cracking deal she got from Sainsbury’s as part of a wider haul.

“12 Family Christmas crackers at Sainsbury’s available in gold or silver, £5 reduced to £1.25, and better items in the crackers,” she said.

Another posted in the group that she got some crackers from Iceland for a £1.

These deals are also unavailable online so you’ll need to visit your nearest branch to find the deals.
