MARTIN Lewis has explained how shoppers can get free cash to spend at Tesco this Christmas – but there are just hours left to take advantage of the offer.

To get a boost in time for the festive season, Martin said Tesco Clubcard members must top up their Christmas saver scheme account by tomorrow.

Tesco’s Christmas Saver scheme allows customers to save all their Clubcard points throughout the year to use on their big festive shop.

You can also top up your account and get a bonus from Tesco in return, which will boost your savings further.

The bonus you get from Tesco depends on how much you top up your account by.

You get £1.50 in vouchers if you top it up by £25, £3 for a £50 top up, £6 for £100, and £12 for a £200 top-up.

Shoppers will receive their vouchers in November to spend on Christmas food and present haul in stores.

You have to be a Clubcard member to be eligible for the scheme though.

Martin explained that these shoppers have until next Wednesday to top up their accounts and get the bonus.

Speaking on his ITV programme, The Martin Lewis Money Show, the financial guru said: “If you know you’re going to be spending in Tesco this Christmas, you may as well charge that up before Wednesday, put £200 in and you’ll have £12 – and it’s a little bit of a boost.”

How do I sign up to Tesco’s Christmas saver scheme?

If you’re a Clubcard member, you can sign up to the scheme via the “voucher schemes” page if you head to your online account.

Unfortunately, you can’t access the scheme if you’re not a Clubcard member.

You can sign up to the Clubcard scheme for free and earn points every time you shop that can later be exchanged for money-off vouchers.

Shoppers are given one Clubcard point for every £1 spent, with each point worth 1p when you shop.

What other supermarket Christmas savers schemes are there?

Tesco isn’t the only supermarket that has a Christmas savers scheme.

Sainsbury’s shoppers can sign up to The Christmas Club Card scheme and also get cash bonuses on their balance too.

You can load your card up to a maximum of £1,975, and the minimum amount is £1.

You’ll get a cash bonus if you have £50 or more on your card before November 1.

You’ll get a 5% cash bonus – worth £2.50 – for every £50 on your card.

So if you have £100, you’d get a fiver free.

If you shop at Asda, then you can also sign up to the shop’s Christmas programme.

You can pick up an Asda Christmas Savings card in stores and register it online or in stores.

You can top up your card at a store checkout throughout the year.

You must have £280 on the card by November in order to qualify for a £15 free cash bonus.
