The UK’s biggest supermarket has received hundreds of messages on social media from frustrated customers who have had deliveries cancelled.

Tesco usually delivers shopping until 11pm on Friday nights.

The recorded message on its customer service helpline said: “Due to technical issues we’ve had to cancel all orders after 1pm.

“If your order was due after 1pm you have not been charged.

“We are unable to reschedule these orders.”

Shoppers are also being told there’s a 20-minute to speak to customer services.

Sandra White, 59, from Berkhamstead, is disabled and was due to have her shopping delivered at 7pm tonight.

She plans her deliveries in advance so her daughter can help her unpack the boxes and take the bags into the kitchen.

“I’ve not long been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and have severe mobility problems – this has just made me feel even more useless,” she said.

“My daughter is going to Switzerland tomorrow with work – so I can’t rebook.

“I’m very worried about how I’m going to get my shopping in.”

Ben Widdowson, 39, from Leicestershire, was due to have his shopping delivered between 2-3pm today.

But he said he was notified just half an hour before that he wouldn’t be getting his shopping.

He has three kids aged nine, six and two, and said it was “frustrating” that he doesn’t have groceries to put food on the table.

“I work long hours and plan around having my shopping delivered at a specific time,” he said.

“I’m frustrated – the worst thing about it was that there was no prior communication.”

Another customer on social media said: “No communication to say my delivery is now not arriving.

“I’ve had to ring up to get an automated message saying cancelled – poor communication.”

Another angry shopper said: “Disgusting customer service, no phone call or email to say I wouldn’t get my delivery today, just an automated voice saying all orders cancelled when you call as it’s not turned up!

“I shop for an elderly housebound lady, I will now have to tell her she won’t get her shop!”

A new mum tweeted: “Tesco delivery expected 1-2, email received at 2pm to say it’s been cancelled. Ideal situation with a 7 week old.”

And another shopper added: “Tesco please explain to me how cancelling our delivery with just over an hour’s notice, just an email and no phone call is acceptable?

“I live 25 miles from a store and have guests arriving – I’ve now got a 50 mile round trip on a Friday evening. Totally unreliable & not acceptable.”

It comes after the supermarket’s website went down earlier this week.

Tesco shoppers have been warned against relying on Clubcard prices as well.
