A WEEKEND job could be something to top up your main wage, or hep you fit in other responsibilities on a weekday.
Either way, a Saturday or Sunday job isn’t just for teens looking for pocket money – many are high-paying.

And you don’t need to have gone to university to improve your chances of landing a well-paid role.
Many jobs don’t need qualification to earn a decent salary, and can even offer training while you learn.
So if you’re not set on working Monday to Friday we reveal the top paid jobs, according to job site Adzuna.
The most well-paid role, a phlebotomist, could see you earning £23.99 an hour.
There are no set entry requirements to become a trainee phlebotomist thought it’s worth taking a free course in Healthcare Support Services, Health and Social Care of Healthcare Support.
Second on the list is a shift engineer which will see you oversee the production and maintenance operations during a work shift.
You could be earning £20.74 an hour in this kind of role.
To become one, you’d most likely need to complete an engineering-related college course or apprenticeship.

A HGV technician – which is someone who operates heavy good vehicles – could earn £20.27 an hour as of August 2023.
You can become one by taking part in an apprenticeship, you don’t need A-levels or their equivalent to be able to do well in this career.
After that, becoming a maintenance engineer pays £19.45.
If you’re thinking of switching to this, you might need a college qualification in engineering or something similar.
Or you could start as an engineering craftworkers and train on the job.
If you don’t want an engineering-related role, you might want to consider becoming a recruitment consultant.
Adzuna found that these jobs can pay £17.65 an hour.
You could start as an office assistant in a recruitment agency and work your way up through on-the-job training and promotion.
You could also go down the apprenticeship route and take a course in recruitment.
There are also no requirements to get into an estate supervisor role and you could get £15.95 an hour.
Likewise for a community carer which will pay £15.75 hourly.
If you’re into food, then a sous chef role could pay £14.97 – a sous chef assists the head chef.
You don’t need set qualifications but you’ll have to work your way up from a chef de parties who helps to oversee and prep food.
In comparison to the top jobs, a warehouse supervisor will get you £13.59 an hour.
You’ll have to start as a team leader or assistant manager in a warehouse, you may also need to complete a course in warehouse or transport operations.
James Neave, Head of Data Science at Adzuna, comments: “Hard work does pay off for the jobseekers who are willing to sacrifice their weekends for work, with many weekend jobs paying more than £15/hour.
“Many of these opportunities do not have any degree requirement, nevertheless, the highest-paying weekend jobs require industry knowledge and experience. Nurturing jobseekers can consider roles like Weekend Phlebotomist and Weekend Community Carer, and those with a mechanical background can consider Weekend Shift Engineer and Weekend Maintenance Engineer positions.
“While it is legal to have more than one job in the UK, it’s important for jobseekers to check the employment contract with their current employer before taking on their second job.”
How to negotiate a pay rise
With the cost of living as high as it is, you might be thinking now is a good time to negotiate a pay rise.
But plucking up the courage to approach your bosses can leave you feeling anxious and stressed – unless you know how to go about it.
There are some tips you can use to make the situation smoother though.

He said knowing your worth is a good start – that means using a salary tool to work out how much you should be earning based on your role, experience and where you live.
If you’re not being paid enough, you can take that evidence to your boss to justify asking for a pay rise.
Meanwhile, Bill said timing is crucial – you don’t want to ask for a pay bump if your company has been performing badly in recent months.
Nor would you want to ask for one if you’ve not been meeting personal goals set by management.
Third, if your bosses aren’t willing to up your pay and you think it’s undeservedly, you can always apply for a new role that pays higher.
