‘Levelling up in action’: The Baltic Centre and the Sage Gateshead music venue
Tech giant Sage is ploughing £10million into the largest business and entertainment district in the North East.
The Sage will open in Gateshead in 2024 between the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and the Sage Gateshead music venue.
It will add an estimated £70million a year to the local economy and create 2,000 jobs. Chief executive Steve Hare said: ‘This has become a really strong region for tech talent and we want to boost other businesses, especially local ones.’
Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said: ‘It is a prime example of the role businesses can play in boost the job prospects and livelihoods of those living in their local communities.’
It comes after Sage, which provides accountancy software to small companies, recently opened a £20million HQ in north Tyneside.
