A SUPERMARKET with 2,500 stores is closing a branch today – seeing shoppers moan about how much they “need it”.
The major chain is shutting up shop at one of its stores for the last time after announcing its final day of trading last month.

After opening just five years ago, Co-op‘s College Green store in Bristol is closing its rollers for good.
Regular customers were quick to share their disappointment on social media.
One person begged it didn’t shut up shop, writing: “We need it.”
Another fumed: “All the businesses and shops are closing in the zone as predicted.”

One person previously said: “Even supermarkets are closing now this country is closing down last person out switch the lights off.”
The city centre store opened in November 2018, two years after the former Morrisons M-Local shop shut up shop.
Competition from other rival supermarkets could be a factor in its sudden closure, as Tesco and Sainsbury’s are both nearby in the city centre.
Staff have reportedly been reassured of jobs in other branches across the city after the closure next month.

Co-op said at the time the closure was announced: “Co-op regularly reviews its stores and, only after careful consideration has the decision been taken for its store in College Green, Bristol, to close next month.
“Our priority has been to fully support colleagues, with positions in Co-op stores locally offered to all employees.
“Co-op remains committed to serving and supporting its Members and customers in Bristol, and operates around 30 stores in communities in and around the City, including two within a mile of College Green.”
It comes after a high street shop with over 160 stores loved by parents has announced the closure of another location.
Major toy chain The Entertainer is set to pull down the shutters of one of its branches located in a popular Bristol shopping centre.
The move came just days after the store announced they would be closing another one of its town centre branches, with locals left devastated.
But it’s not just toy stores that have been hit hard, many high street retailers have been struggling to stay afloat over the past few years, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the same time the cost of living has been rising, leading to shoppers cutting back on non-essential spending.
Energy costs have soared and more consumers than ever are taking their shopping online rather than physically visiting brick-and-mortar stores.
This has left several retailers grappling with budgets and being forced to close branches to slash costs.
Argos revealed it is closing its standalone store at Kettering Retail Park for the final time.
Boots recently revealed it would be closing 300 stores over the next year as part of plans to evolve its brand.

B&M has already closed nine of its stores since February this year.
Popular chains including M&Co, Paperchase, and Wilko closed all stores in 2023.
