A vintage Rolls-Royce that was owned by The Streets frontman Mike Skinner is set to be sold at auction for more than £17,000.

The heavily modified luxury car featured on the cover of the band’s 2006 album The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living. The 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is now set to be sold at auction this Thursday, with current bids having already reached heights of £17,250.

Skinner commissioned major modifications to the vintage car in 2006, fitting it out with striking 22-inch wheels and tan leather seats.

The Streets frontman was forced to abandon plans to use the car to go on tour, due to troubles installing a stereo system.

Under Skinner’s ownership, the Silver Shadow, which originally had a Caribbean Aqua body and contrasting white roof, was sprayed entirely gloss black.

The London born musician also fitted the Rolls-Royce with 22-inch dish-style wheels and a twin exhaust pipe positioned in the middle of the low-slung motor.

The car was entirely stripped of its interior and fitted with figure-hugging front seats from a sporty Porsche 928.

A custom pair of tan leather seats, designed to match those from the Porsche, were also fitted in the back in place of the traditional bench.

The car was also fitted with a range-topping Pioneer CD stereo head unit, Alpine screens in the back of the front seat headrests, and additional speakers – as you might expect from a vehicles owned by a platinum-selling artist.

Plans to use the car for a British tour, however, collapsed due to problems finishing off the sound system.

In a 2006 posting on his official blog, Skinner explained: ‘I was propa (sic) looking forward to caning it through England and Scotland on 3 wheels.

‘If anyone wants to buy a Silver Shadow without sound-system I’m up for offers to be honest.’

UK auction house Collecting Cars say the ride is being offered with no estimate, but they ‘would expect the provenance of the car to mean it would be selling above £10,000 – which looks like great value for such a recognisable piece of modern era British music history.’

‘This Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is described by the seller as being a true head-turning creation, with the lowered stance and mirror-finish wheels giving it huge road presence, and the plush interior re-trim adding a more contemporary feel,’ the auction house added.

‘This is a stylish classic with fantastic music industry provenance; and with a fresh advisory-free MOT certificate under its belt, it would make an intriguing and very usable addition to any collection.’
