IT’S warm out and there’s nothing better than a nice cool drink.
Sales of reusable insulated drinks bottles have been rapidly increasing as many of us do our bit for the environment.
So with temperatures still high, here are some DIY drinks to put in them to keep you cool on the go.
POD PLEASERS: If you love an iced latte or Americano from one of the big coffee chains, save yourself some dosh by making one at home.
Many coffee lovers will already have a Nespresso machine (I know mine was a lifesaver during lockdown), and the brand has now launched a selection of pods to be used over ice.
For an extra summer kick, try the coconut flavour pods, from £4.50 for ten, depending on your machine.
It’s far cheaper than the average price of a medium iced latte at Costa at around £2.45, without a flavour.
SAVE: Around £2 per iced coffee
ICE, ICE, BABY: My favourite bit of a cinema trip is the Tango Ice Blasts.
But they can be pricey. Whip up your own savvy version by taking any ice lollies you have, crushing them up and popping into a blender with a glass of Tango. Any flavour will work.
Sainsbury’s has 2L bottles of Tango Orange and Strawberry & Watermelon flavour for £1.25, down from £1.65.
SAVE: 40p on Tango
BREW-TIFUL: Canned cold brew coffee is perfect for grabbing on the go without much hassle, but it can be an expensive way to get a cold caffeine hit.
I love Aldi’s Light Latte Macchiato. It’s only 59p for 250ml and tastes amazing — plus it’s far cheaper than the Starbucks version, £1.70 at Ocado for a smaller can.
SAVING: £1.11 plus 30ml extra
SHAKE AWAY: Forget queuing for a McDonald’s milkshake.
Just combine two cups of vanilla ice cream and 1¼ cups of milk with chocolate, banana or strawberry Nesquik (£1.50 for a tub at Asda). Put in a blender until smooth.
SAVE: Approx £1.99 per milkshake
- Prices correct at time of going to press. Offers subject to availability.
