A STAR Wars collection which includes the “holy grail” of toys is expected to fetch up to £250,000 at auction today — after being saved from being binned.

The seller was going to throw the whole lot away after he was left the collection of more than 500 items by his neighbour, who died earlier this year, and had no idea of their value.

Among the treasures are two figures thought to be among the rarest in the world.

A Star Destroyer Commander is one of only two known to exist in the original packaging.

It is so sought after that auctioneers Aston’s, of Dudley, West Midlands, has not been able to put an estimate on it.

And a “holy grail” Jawa with a vinyl cape on a black card, thought to be one of only ten in a similar condition, is valued at £25,000.

STAR Wars character Baby Yoda will feature in a National Portrait Gallery exhibition.

The painting, called The Mandalorian and The Child, is part of a free Star Wars event running from tomorrow.

The collaboration by the gallery with video streaming service Disney+ is to promote the second series of Star Wars spin-off TV series The Mandalorian.

Aston’s said: “It was left to the guy by his neighbour and he was going to throw it away before he came to us.

“He sent me a picture of about ten things he thought could be valuable but, to be honest, I only went because it’s about four miles down the road.

“When I walked in, I found a garage piled high with bin bags all full of these toys.”
