What time is Rishi Sunak’s Spring Budget speech?

Sunak is set to update the House of Commons on the country’s financial situation at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

This address will come after PM Boris Johnson takes part in Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) which start at 12pm.

What will Rishi Sunak announce in the Spring Budget?

As families feel the pinch thanks to rising costs, Sunak is under pressure to deliver policies which soften the cost of living crisis where inflation is at a 30-year high.

Even the PM has been piling pressure on the Chancellor.

Johnson told the Conservative Party Spring forum in Blackpool: “We’ve got to do everything we can to help people with the cost of living.

“That means doing all the things that we’re doing — lifting the living wage, cutting council tax bills, helping with fuel costs, giving billions to councils and millions more to help people in particular hardship.”

Ahead of the Spring Statement, Sunak has faced calls to U-turn on the planned 1.25% national insurance rise.

But the PM and Chancellor have remained adamant that the increase, which is set to come into force in April 2022, will go ahead.

Meanwhile, motorists will be hoping that rumours of cuts to fuel duty are true.

That’s as petrol and diesel prices continue to increase at an alarming rate, exacerbated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In February 2022, the government announced plans for a £150 council tax rebate and a £200 energy bill loan to tackle the rising cost of household bills.

The measures have been criticised for not going far enough however, with many hoping that the Spring Statement will mean further support for heating bills, which have doubled in millions of cases.
