Whether it’s the latest chart hits or a classic soul album, Spotify already has something for music lovers of almost any taste.
Now, the tech giant has launched its most personalised service, in the form of an AI DJ.
The DJ, dubbed X, features a ‘stunningly realistic voice’ and creates personalised mixes based on your music taste.
‘The DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you,’ Spotify explains.
‘This feature, first rolling out in beta, will deliver a curated lineup of music alongside commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a stunningly realistic voice.’

The AI DJ is Spotify’s latest personalised offering, following the success of other features such as Discover Weekly and Wrapped.
‘The beauty of these experiences is our ability to deliver the right piece of music for that exact moment in time, and maybe even connect you with your next favorite artist in the process,’ Spotify explained.
‘We’re building on that innovation by harnessing the power of AI in an entirely new way.’
The DJ uses OpenAI technology to sort through your latest music and old favourites, before combining these with songs it thinks you might enjoy.
Your personalised mix is delivered by X, whose voice is based on Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan, Spotify’s Head of Cultural Partnerships and one of the hosts on Spotify podcast, The Get Up.
‘His personality and voice resonated with our listeners and resulted in a loyal following for the podcast,’ Spotify explained.
‘His voice is the first model for the DJ, and we’ll continue to iterate and innovate, as we do with all our products.’
Thankfully, if you’re not enjoying the mix, you can tap the DJ button and it will change things up.
‘The more you listen and tell the DJ what you like (and don’t like!), the better its recommendations get,’ Spotify added.

The AI DJ is currently available for Spotify Premium users in the US and Canada, and it remains unclear when it will launch in the UK.
If you’re in the US or Canada, you can find the feature by heading to your Music Feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app.
Tap Play on the DJ card and it will deliver your personalised mix.
Since its launch yesterday, the AI DJ has garnered huge attention from impressed fans on Twitter.
One tweeted: ‘The Spotify DJ AI-powered feature is a game changer.’
Another added: ‘The AI generated voice is incredible, love it when it adds in extra details about the artist, new releases.’
And one joked: ‘Can I let the AI know when I break up with a girl so it squeezes in enough sad songs into the list?’
