A SPLATOON fan spent almost £3000 ($3500) on Nintendo shares in order to make a direct complaint.

By purchasing at least 100 shares in the company, the fan was able to attend a shareholder meeting and make his voice heard.

One of the complaints is that girl characters are shown more often than boys.

The man claims that he previously sent letters to Nintendo talking about his issue with Splatoon 3, but they had all been left unanswered.

That’s why he took the desperate measure of purchasing these shares to ensure his grievances were addressed.

He claims that he spent over £2000 ($2500) on a credit card purchasing Nintendo Switch consoles before reselling them at loss to a Japanese second-hand store.

Despite losing almost half the money he put in, he could use the cash to now purchase shares.

At the meeting he read out a statement regarding what he believes to be the unfair treatment of boy characters compared to girl characters in Splatoon 3.

As translated by GLHF, he started by saying: “Our company has blatantly given the boys in Splatoon the cold shoulder, and I would like to see some improvement.”

What followed was a laundry list of complaints about how girl characters are given better emotes, user icons, and hairstyles compared to boys.

He states that the issue started with the third entry as, “in Splatoon 3, there is a lot more customization, and there is clear favoritism towards girl characters over boys.”

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly tried to interrupt the speech, but the man carried on regardless.

He also complained about Nintendo’s marketing of the game, saying: “From the 2021 Fall Direct and all of the next year trailers always showed the girl character.

“There were people like me who were looking forward to playing as a boy, and every day [without seeing the boy character] we were filled with dread that we wouldn’t be able to.”

Near the end of his speech, he said: “It makes me extremely sad when people say ‘If you enjoy playing as a boy, then you won’t enjoy playing Splatoon’.”

After he finished, Furukawa reportedly thanked him for enjoying the game and continued on with the meeting.
