TWO of gaming’s most popular websites for modifying games, Nexusmods and ModsDB, have put out statements banning anti-LGBT content after controversial Spider-Man mods.
Spider-Man, one of the most popular games on PlayStation 4, recently released for PC, making it easier for fans to make edits to the game.
The controversy began when a fan replaced all the pride flags in the game with America’s star spangled banner.
Set in New York, Spider-Man Remastered has a number of American flags attached to buildings in the city.
There are also a few rainbow coloured pride flags among them.
One player released a mod to replace the flags, which they called “stupid pride flags”, with more American flags.
If other players downloaded this mod, they could also edit their game so there would be no rainbow flags.
Nexusmods, the largest website for mods to edit games, was the first to remove the mod and ban the user who created it.
In a statement, the website said: “The fact the user needed to make a sock puppet [a new account] like a coward to upload the mod showed their intent to troll.
“They knew it would not be allowed.

“In regards to the replacement of pride flags in this game, or any game, our policy is thus: we are for inclusivity, we are for diversity.
“If we think someone is uploading a mod on our site with the intent to deliberately be against inclusivity and/or diversity then we will take action against it.”
The statement went on to inform users that if they could not accept the pro-LGBT stance of the website, they should “delete their account and move on”.
Another large modding website, ModDB, followed suit, deleting the mod and its creator.
It then issued the statement: “ModDB is an inclusive environment for all and we do not permit targeting marginalised groups.
“Our content moderation is largely automated but when identified, we have a zero tolerance policy for this kind of content.”
