Sky customers will have access to the Peacock streaming service for free later this year, the firm has revealed.

Comcast, which owns both Sky and Peacock, will roll out the service to nearly 20million European customers at no additional cost.

Peacock will be bundled as part of the entertainment membership on Now and Sky Ticket and will include shows like The Office, Rutherford Falls, Saved by the Bell, Equalizer, Young Rock, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Suits and Downton Abbey.

The agreement with Sky marks Peacock’s first international expansion since its US launch last summer.

The service is proving popular with 54million customers signing up for Peacock in the US over the past year.

Dana Strong, group chief executive officer of Sky, said: ‘Peacock will be a great addition for Sky customers with over 7,000 hours of content at no additional cost.

‘This exceptional value add is another example of the great ways we are innovating to bring more benefits to our customers from the synergies across Sky, NBCUniversal, and Comcast Cable.’

The news comes up after Sky announced earlier this week that it was planning to axe Sky One and replace it with two new channels from September as part of a major revamp to its portfolio of TV channels.

Sky customers will instead be offered Sky Showcase, which will feature a selection of the top shows including Sky Nature, Sky Arts, SyFy and E!.

They will also have access to Sky Max, which will be the broadcaster’s new home of ‘blockbuster entertainment’ such as original dramas A Discovery Of Witches and Cobra and comedy entertainment shows such as A League Of Their Own.
