But you don’t need to always buy frozen.

Make your fresh stocks last longer with these cool tricks.

USE YOUR LOAF: Check the bakery counter at the end of the day to pick up yellow-stickered goodies.

Bread can then be frozen for up to two months and thawed out in a few hours, ready for when you need it.

GROUND PLAN: Buy coffee granules in bulk and freeze in an airtight container.

When you are ready to make a cup of coffee, simply add the frozen grounds to your coffee maker and brew as usual.

WHAT A SMOOTHIE: Fruit and veg can be frozen into portions for smoothies, soups and juices.

Frozen fruit can also be used in place of ice for refreshing lemonade and spritzers.

Frozen, chopped bananas are brilliant for adding to smoothies or even blended into homemade ice cream.

JUST ADD WATER: Pasta and rice can be frozen and used for quick dinners.

Simply whip up a batch and freeze in the required portion sizes.

To unthaw, add a bit of water and heat it through in the microwave or on the hob to create quick and easy midweek meals.

SPREAD THE COST: Stock up on butter as it is increasing in price.

If you find butter on offer, you can buy more and keep it in your freezer. If you need to thaw it quickly, try grating it.

MINT CONDITION: Keep all your herbs fresh by transferring them to an airtight container.

Pop them in the freezer and take out as much as you need to flavour dishes.

Another speedy way to keep lots of different herbs fresh is to wash and chop them into an ice cube tray.

Add a little water to make sure the herbs are submerged, then thaw when needed.
