ALDI shoppers have teased the bargain supermarket after spotting a price reduction sticker that only slashed 1p off the cost of items in-store.

A box of 240 PG Tips tea bags had been reduced from £3.49 to just £3.48, only discounting the product by a penny.

But shoppers were quick to call out the supermarket as soon as they spotted the pricing mishap.

They shared the find on Facebook page, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.

The group is usually dedicated to finding the best bargains at supermarkets, discount stores, and more, but shoppers were a bit disappointed to find the new Aldi “bargain” was far from that.

The post managed to rack up 736 likes as users joined in, teasing the supermarket for the stingy reduction.

One sarcastically said: “Bargain! Hope you stocked up!”

While another joked: “Wow, a whole penny off – must pay £5.20 bus fare and rush to get a box with that huge saving!”

One even quoted a family member as they said: “As my grandad used to say – look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.”

And some even brought the budget supermarket’s rival ,Tesco, into the jest as they somewhat quoted the store’s catchphrase: “Every penny helps.”

Another did the maths and said: “Buy 349 boxes and get one free.”

And another, thinking the same, said: “Martin Lewis’ got nothing on these lot. Quids-in after I buy a few hundred!”

Some did have some useful comments to share as they tried to redirect the community conversation back to bargains – and how to actually make a saving on tea bags.

One said: “Sainsbury’s has 240 Tetley tea bags for £3, and they are £5 in Morrisons.”

While another said: “Lidl, this weekend, has 160 red label tea bags for 49p.”

It is a good idea to shop around, as with a bit of effort you are often likely to find a better deal – and taking advantage of other store’s discounts and promos, you might save more than 1p.

The playful attack on Aldi comes just as its shoppers were equally disappointed to find its popular egg chair that launched online today, had already sold out this morning.

But we have spoken to an Aldi store manager as he shares his five ways to save cash when you’re shopping at the store.
