The treats are being stocked in some Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op and Spar stores – although they’re not available to buy online yet.

Others said displays of these sweet treats have also popped up at Sainsbury’s and M&S as well.

One shopper said they were “surprised” at the early appearance of the springtime seasonal favourites.

Meanwhile, others poked fun at stores for putting these treats on sale in December – four months before Easter.

Easter Sunday falls on April 4 in 2021.

One confused chocolate fan tweeted: “[I’m] so glad that Morrison’s are selling #Christmas #eggs and Bunnies nothing says Christmas more than an egg merry Easter everyone.”

Another said: “Yes folks Happy Easter two days out from Christmas with love from Aldi.”

A third user shared a picture of the chocolates and said: “Just been down to my local @Tesco with my business partner (socially distanced of course), and I’m so surprised to see #Easter Eggs in store. Anything to look forward to next year I suppose! Great effort.”

Kristine Bradford shared a photo to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, which showed full shelves of Easter chocolates at a Morrisons branch in Exeter.

John Stevens also tweeted a picture of Mini Egg on sale in Spar and joked: “The govt seems to be suggesting that with COVID rampant Easter should be the new Christmas. Our local SPAR seems to have taken this literally.”

Thomas Jones cracked a joke about the chocolate eggs being on sale already, tweeting: “You can always tell Christmas is here, they sell Easter eggs in Tesco’s.”

Another Twitter user made a similar joke about Sainsbury’s, saying: “Christmas must be really close now. Sainsbury’s have got their Easter eggs out.”

Louise Cheetham claimed she saw the sweet treats in M&S and said: “Just been shopping for Christmas food. Went to Sainsbury’s and M&S and both were well stocked and we’ll managed. No empty shelves, apart from the ones ready to be stocked with Easter eggs on Boxing Day!”

Jane Hepburn Macmillan wrote: “Just saw Easter eggs in the co-op,” while Laura Ridings joked: “Well done @Morrisons I’ve just seen the first easter product…come on he’s not even been born yet let alone risen from the dead.”

Another Twitter user joked: “Is it too early to complain that @Morrisons have already put out the Easter Eggs?”

Shoppers can already get their hands on Creme Eggs for 60p and a bag of Mini Eggs for £1 depending on what store you go to.

Supermarkets generally start selling Easter chocolates at the beginning of the new year, but some shops can decide themselves to stock it early.

Morrisons, for example, told The Sun it’s started selling Easter chocolates already but does not have its full range in stores yet.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “It’s a few weeks until customers are able to choose from our full range of Easter products.

“However, we know some of our customers like to buy their eggs early so we have started selling a small selection in some of our stores.”

We contacted Spar and the Co-op for comment and will update this page if we get a response.

Last year, shoppers spotted Easter eggs and hot cross buns before the end of December.

In 2018, the festive favourites were even seen on shelves in November.

It comes as Brits rush to supermarkets for last minute Christmas Eve shopping before stores close for December 25.

We’ve rounded up all the main supermarket opening hours for the festive period.
