Shoppers are spending more online for Mother’s Day this year as pubs and restaurants remain closed, figures indicate.
Related retail sales are set to be 9 per cent higher than last year at £1.34billion, said market research specialist Savvy.
A survey of 1,024 shoppers found that many had spent big on food to cook at home as eating out is off the menu.

Retailers of alcohol, flowers and jewellery were also seeing significant sales growth.
Supermarkets and online retailers were expected to benefit most. Non-essential stores are set to remain shut until at least April 12.
The research showed 78 per cent of shoppers were keen to support smaller local retailers which have been suffering financially after extended lockdowns due to the pandemic.
Some 71 per cent were purchasing gifts online. About 38 per cent were considering items spotted on social media.
Shoppers intend to spend £163million on experiences – from spa days to afternoon teas – to enjoy later in the year.
Savvy chief executive Catherine Shuttleworth said: ‘People have been ordering online ahead of time instead of a lastminute dash to the shops.’
