A Tesco spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Brislington within the next week.

“We can share further information over the next few days.”

Customer Jody Smith eats at the Greggs every week and reacted with frustration.

“It’s the only place to sit in and get a coffee in Broadwalk, because the other cafe, Nikki Jaine’s Light Bites, has shut,” she told the BristolWorld.

Another added: “I’m very disappointed. Who’s going to go to Tesco because we’ve got to be able to get to it?

“We know this place is going to be done up, but there’s a lot of housing.”

There are 20 Greggs stores in Bristol and there is also an “outlet” store in Redfield.

It comes after Greggs bosses were ribbed for opening a shop for just 90 minutes.

Customers were met by signs telling them the store would only be open for lunch due to staffing issues.

The shop in Caterham, Surrey, opened from 12.30pm to 2pm on Tuesday.
