Through the Too Good To Go app, shoppers can get boxes filled with grub about to go off from Morrisons for just £3.09 a box.

The shop bundles all of its yellow sticker food items for the day into a box and sends it out to customers for rock bottom prices.

However, you don’t know what you’re going to get in your box of goodies.

But bargain hunters have been known to get up to £35 worth of items in their mystery packages.

You pay through the app and get given a slot before closing time to go and pick it up from your local Morrisons store.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from comparison site Money.co.uk about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

There are only a few boxes available every day so you need to be quick. The food is all close to expiry but you can freeze it, or cook something up and keep it for a few days more.

The happy shopper uploaded his box of goodies onto the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group and the post received hundreds of likes and comments.

One impressed shopper said “Look at all that cheese”, while another said the haul was “fab”.

You can also use the Too Good To Go app to get treats for less at other shops too.

One shopper shared how she got £11.45 worth of treats from Greggs for just £2.59 using the app.

The Sun has seen other success stories by other shoppers using the Too Good To Go app too.

One mum told us she buys restaurant roast dinners worth £12 each for just £3.29 using the food app, and she reckons it saves her hundreds of pounds a year.

While another savvy bargain hunter picked up four regular cupcakes from Lola’s cupcakes for £3.99 through the app.

There are other food waste apps you can use too to bag food for less.

The Olio app lets customer bag food nearing its expiry date for FREE from Tesco.

Biscuits, bread and fresh produce that is approaching its expiry date will be picked up from stores by one of Olio’s 8,000 volunteers who will then distribute it in their local communities.

The volunteers get to keep 10% of what they pick up from the store, but the rest is uploaded onto the app for the local community to bag.
