Twitter has offices in London and Manchester but it is unclear how many UK jobs are at risk with the global jobs rout.

But in a ferocious statement on Friday, Mike Clancy, general secretary of Prospect union, which represents engineers and scientists, said he was working to “defend” UK livelihoods.

He slammed: “Twitter is treating its people appallingly.

“These are people who have invested their time, effort and enthusiasm in building the platform, which risks being thrown away.”

Amid the carnage, one ex-staff member who got the sack revealed she is eight months pregnant and has a nine month old.

The US-based mum fumed: “Just got cut off from laptop access… Really the last day Twitter was Twitter.”

Another laid off member of staff said his son “had too see his daddy cry”.

Twitter has been sued in a San Francisco court as a result of the sackings.

Staffers are claiming that they’ve not been given enough notice – which they say is in violation of state and federal law, according to Bloomberg.
