A sci-fi series has taken the number one spot on IMDB following the release of its second season – despite the show’s ‘disappointing’ debut in 2022.
The first season of the video game adaptation was deemed a ‘one-hit’ wonder’ by viewers who felt the story was written by a ‘high schooler’ and the graphics were ‘low budget CGI.’
But Halo season two, released this month, now sits at number one in IDMB’s list of top sci-fi TV series.
The Paramount+ series has 7.2 stars and more than 81,000 votes – overtaking popular shows like Netflix’s Stranger Things and Black Mirror.
Halo also has an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes – a jump from season one’s 61 percent rating.
The show is based on the popular Xbox franchise of the same name, which centers around a war between aliens and humans during the 26th century – with Master Chief as the main character.

Viewers have said Halo is worth a second look due to being more visually appealing with realistic action sequences.
The improvement is also due to more streamlined, focusing on character development and core storylines without unnecessary distractions that many reported experiencing in the first season.
‘With Season 2, Halo as made substantial improvements, creating a more cohesive and captivating series worth watching,’ according to MovieWeb.
Viewers have also been thrilled by more aliens making it into the new season, which is the focus on the popular vide ogame.
Halo, released by Paramount+ on March 24, 2022, is produced by SHOWTIME.
The live-action adaptation had been in the works for years.
Production began on the nine-episode season in 2019, originally supposed to air on Showtime but moved to Paramount+ in February 2021.

The show stars Pablo Schreiber as the Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced super-soldier, who leads his team of Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
The first season focused heavily on Master Chief, whose real name is John, primarily how he was taken from the human colony world of Eridanus as a child and conscripted into the SPARTAN-II supersoldier project by the United Nations Space Command (UNSC).
The series also introduced an ancient relic that John only he can activate through touch, which then becomes a sought after object throughout the galaxy.
One of the main flaws viewers found was John spent most of the season without his helmet – the first time it was removed in the 20 years the video game has been out.
On top of that, far too much of the show’s run-time was spent exploring plotlines unrelated to the Master Chief bashing the sinister alien Covenant – and left many fans cold.
The poor reviews seemed to be from die-hard Halo gamers who believed the adaptation was nothing like what they saw on Xbox.

‘For one it’s kinda cheesy with the actor’s voice and them not using the voice actor from the game doesn’t translate well at all on the big screen suit looks fine story meh the actions are all fine and dandy but the real kicker is master chief takes his helmet off killing the chief vibe early on I’m sure it won’t get another season but we will see, a reviewer shared on IBDM in 2022.
However, those not familiar with the game enjoyed the show and said the first series was a great start.
‘Really dig the first episode. People complaining about him taking his helmet off and not being voiced by Steve need to kick rocks,’ reads a 2022 review on IBDM.
‘There are still many episodes left plus a season 2 on the way.’
Paramount+ had announced a second season was underway before the first even hit the platform, but the release happened this month – shooting Halo to the top spot on IMDB.
In season two, Master Chief John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
In the wake of a shocking event on a desolate planet, John cannot shake the feeling that his war is about to change and risks everything to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant is preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. With the galaxy on the brink, John embarks on a journey to find the key to humankind’s salvation, or its extinction: the Halo.
