A fear of flying can easily dissuade travellers from missing out on the experiences of a lifetime as they find it difficult to combat their phobia.

From the unwanted tremour of turbulence to the cramped spaces and feeling of a lack of control, being on planes can be a wholly unpleasant experience for many passengers.

Thankfully, a frequent flyer has taken to TikTok to share the best places to sit on an aeroplane if you are scared of flying.

Posting to his channel on the platform, @aranstravels1 shared that there are in fact parts of the plane which are less likely to be affected by an accident or emergency.

Recording a voiceover of the video, he said: ‘You need to select a seat over the wing towards the back end of the plane as statistically, this are has a high survival rate in the unlikely event of a crash’.

He added: ‘It’s also where you feel turbulence less as the wings help keep the plane balanced compared with the back and front of the plane where turbulence is felt a lot more’.

The tip comes as a pilot revealed the life-saving tips every passenger should know to ensure that they stay safe in the air.

Speaking anonymously to DailyMail.com in March 2023, they said: ‘The majority of people will wear shoes that are comfortable but some people might want to dress up a little in heels or smart footwear.

‘However, when picking your flight footwear I would recommend selecting something with the worse case scenario in the back of your mind.

‘You want to be wearing a comfortable shoe you can move quickly in and walk distances in, in the event of an emergency. The floors of planes aren’t always the cleanest so covered shoes are always better too.’

Other tips included the key advice of familiarising yourself with the brace position, always wearing your seatbelt during turbulence and having a glass of water with every alcoholic beverage to avoid being excessively dehydrated.

They also added that you should steer clear of the galley area of the plane as much as possible, stating: ‘Another spot on the plane to steer clear of as much as possible is the galley.

‘The cooking area is full of sharp objects, from knifes to bottle openers, and if these are not secured properly they become instant hazards. Boiled water for hot drinks and hot meals present themselves as another risk.

‘In more severe cases of turbulence I have also seen wine bottles smash. It can get pretty messy.’
