SAMSUNG is mulling plans to offer software updates to their Galaxy phones for longer, which can save customers from pricey upgrades.
The Korean smartphone company may give its upcoming Galaxy S24 handset updates for the next seven years, once it hits the shelves this year.
In October, Google announced that its new Pixel 8 phone would be receiving updates for the next seven years.
According to TechRadar, Samsung has been considering this increase since last year.
It would make sense for the company to bring its Android handsets in line with Google’s respective Android models.
But one tipster has suggested that the seven-year promise will only apply to security software updates.

There are two types of updates that Android phones typically receive over the years: Android version updates and security software updates.
The former typically contain sparkly new features and customisation options.
Whereas the latter patch up bugs that have been discovered or exploited in the previous version of the software.

Once these updates stop, the device is still usable – but it can get risky.
Most people can live without the newest features or apps.
