SAMSUNG owners are set to receive a big Android upgrade that will make their phone calls more high-tech than Apple iPhones.

From early next year, select Samsung handsets will be able to use artificial intelligence (AI) to translate calls live.

"Because it’s integrated into the native call feature, the hassle of having to use third-party apps is gone," the company said

What this means is, no matter what language is being spoken into the other end of the line, you will hear – or see – an AI translated version in your native tongue.

In a statement, Samsung explained that audio and text translations will appear in real-time as you speak.

The feature gives every compatible Samsung device owner their very own personal translator, without having to open a third-party app like Google Translate.

The translations will happen on the device, as Samsung has built the aptly named ‘AI Live Translate Call’ feature into the native phone call app on its devices.

“Because it’s integrated into the native call feature, the hassle of having to use third-party apps is gone,” the company said.

Samsung called the feature a “tiny glimpse” into what Galaxy AI intends to bring to handsets.

“Samsung Galaxy helped democratise internet access and turned cameras into a communication tool we can’t live without,” added Samsung.

“Even as all eyes are on AI, some of its best benefits haven’t come to mobile technology yet. Galaxy is about to change that.”

With the feature due to roll out early next year, it looks like it will arrive hand-in-hand with the company’s Galaxy S24 lineup.

It’s unclear which devices will be compatible with the feature, but older handsets might miss out.

AI technology remains in the spotlight for eagle-eyed smartphone companies like Samsung, Google and Apple.

Google has announced a host of new AI features this year, including its Magic Editor, as well as updates to Gmail and Docs and Maps.

There have even been rumours of a secret AI life coach.

Apple has reportedly been pumping a huge amount of cash into the cause, but has so-far been trailing behind.
