SALES of patio heaters, firepits and gazebos have soared as families reunite outdoors in the chilly ­weather over Easter.

Millions are making the most of lockdown easing and meeting for the first time in over three months after Christmas get-togethers were scrapped.

But with indoor socialising still banned until May 17, demand for outdoor heaters and firepits is up sixfold on eBay.

Gazebo sales are up sevenfold, online marketplace ManoMano said.

John Lewis and Argos warned they were selling out of garden furniture.

Kantar market research firm’s Fraser McKevitt said: “People are making a special, symbolic, effort for Easter this year.”

The spending is on top of a £2billion food and drinks spree.

And shoppers report many stores have sold out of Easter eggs this year, with sales up by 50 per cent on 2020 to £153million.

The RAC and other breakdown companies were on alert for a call-outs surge as many cars make long trips for the first time in months.
