Supermarkets and shoppers are getting ready for Christmas

As well as traditional festive classics, there are some new treats on the menus such as a pigs in blanket Christmas tree and pork belly bites.

Christmas food to order works in a similar way to normal online food shopping but there are some differences.

Your order won’t be delivered – instead you’ll have to go and collect it from your chosen store on a selected date in the week before Christmas.

Shoppers also have to put down a deposit, which will vary depending on where you shop, but don’t have to pay the full balance until the collection date.

M&S revealed its food to order menu last month, which includes a sticky toffee pudding crown, oysters and churros.

We’ve got a round-up of all the dates major UK supermarkets are expected to open their Christmas food delivery bookings.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s Christmas 2021 food collection includes a range of ready-to-cook turkeys to cater to all family sizes.

There’s also a wide selection of other meats on offer, including partridge, duck and venison, if you fancy something a bit different.

Sainsbury’s is also selling some new festive treats, including a pig in blanket Christmas tree and a pork, sage and stuffing wreath.

You can select where and when you’d like to collect your order, before adding your chosen products to your basket.

You can find your nearest Sainsbury’s store online.

Shoppers have to pay a £20 deposit to secure their orders, which will be available to collect in store on December 22, 23 or 24.

Here’s a sample of what’s on offer this year.

It’s topped with pigs in blankets, as well as decorative cranberries and rosemary.

Morrisons

Whether you’re going for a classic Christmas turkey or hoping to mix things up – Morrisons has festive food options for all tastes.

The first step is to choose a Morrisons location, date and time for your collection.

Find your nearest Morrisons store here.

You do this before you start selecting your products but you can change stores while you shop to view stock availability elsewhere.

Add your chosen items to your basket and pay a £20 deposit to secure your order.

You’ll also have to spend a minimum of £20 and pay the outstanding balance when you pick up your Christmas food.

You can collect your order from Morrisons stores between December 21 and 24 – just don’t forget to bring your order confirmation with you.

Another option if you’re hoping to mix things up this year, this guard of honour would look pretty impressive on the dinner table.

A guard of honour is two racks of lambs with the bones crossing at the top.

This Morrisons version comes pre-stuffed, reducing any extra hassle on the big day.

Christmas puddings and cakes are nice and traditional, but not everyone is a fan.

Pork belly is difficult to perfect at home but you can cheat with these belly bites.

They are slow-cooked and served in a barbecue rub with a sticky sauce.

Shoppers have already started stockpiling festive food, with Christmas pudding sales up 45% and frozen turkeys up 409%.

Quality Street fans could be left without their favourite chocolates this Christmas due to supply problems.

This is what UK supermarkets are doing to avoid Christmas disaster amid worries over shortages.

I’ve spent £2k stockpiling for Christmas – I’m £1k in debt and got 200 loo rolls and 60 cans of pop, it’s not selfish
