Shares in electric-vehicle maker Rivian Automotive Inc. rose again Thursday, adding to big gains it made on its first day of trading.

Rivian, which rose 29% in its debut on the public markets Wednesday, jumped another 17% Thursday, recently trading at $117.89. Its initial-public-offering price was $78.
