AN AI bot is creating recipes at a restaurant in an incredible world first that may change how we eat out forever.

Launched on Thursday, the new Dubai venue Dodo Pizza is serving up specially curated pizzas inspired by recipes recommended by the controversial chatbot.

ChatGPT has garnered a staggering amount of media attention recently over its ability to produce fully formed essays, generate computer code, compose tweets and even rewrite iconic Sun headlines.

In a wild new attempt to cook up new products, Dodo Pizza UAE is using the tech in a way that may change eating out forever.

Spartak Arutyunyan, Brand Chef of Dodo Pizza UAE, is the man who first created the special pizza with the help of ChatGPT for the new outlet.

When he typed “pizza recipe for Dubai customers” into the chatbot, he received a formula in just five seconds.

The AI produced a recipe that featured lamb kofta on a thin base, topped with a sauce made of tahini and za’atar.

“I had finished creating a menu of 29 pizzas for our new restaurant in Dubai and wondered if the bot could suggest something else,” he said.

ChatGPT also recommended feta as a topping but the restaurant opted for paneer instead, a popular Indian cheese.

Spartak made another small tweak to the ChatGPT recipe by using chicken in place of lamb along with lime, paprika and other spices as chicken is more popular with their customers.

The restaurant decided to keep the tahini and za’atar base, however.

He said: “After ChatGPT appeared, I got to try some really great combinations. This game-changing AI-tool did inspire me to make braver experiments, mix Arabic flavours with european style food.

As head of menu development for Dodo Pizza UAE, he believes that ChatGPT will help diversify menus around the world and encourage customers to try significantly more flavours than ever before.

Dodo Pizza Dubai’s restaurant manager, Walid, said that by 4pm, three people had already ordered the AI pizza after they had come in asking for it specifically.

The 33-year-old added: “Two of the people who came in to order were young while the other was in his mid forties and they all really enjoyed them.

“They told me they were really impressed with the new combination of flavours that they had not tried in any other place.

“The customers were pleased to taste homely flavours on their pizzas, mixed with other western ingredients”.

And the chef, Sam, said: “The pizza is different because we now use a special chicken and a special top sauce, which the ChatGPT recommended.

“I’m really happy that they did this because it lets me try out new things, things that weren’t in the pipeline.

“I also have the opportunity to develop new things, for example, I’ve never put za’atar or tahini on a pizza, so I’m happy that I can try out new things thanks to the AI,” the 33-year-old added.

This is not the first time AI has been used to generate recipes.

In 2022, The New York Times experimented with creating a Thanksgiving dinner based on a ChatGPT recipe recommendation.

The AI reportedly provided a thorough list of ingredients, measurements, and step-by-step instructions on how to create the most appetising holiday dinner.

Following the popularity of ChatGPT, ChefGPT was released by its developer OpenAI, an artificial intelligence startup co-founded in 2015 by Elon Musk and Sam Altman.

The ChefGPT platform was created to recommend recipes and meal plans to users so people “never have to worry about what’s for dinner again”, according to the site.

Only two weeks after its launch in January, the site racked up an eager 40,000 users and generated more than 35,000 recipes.

This new AI cookbook offers different modes, with premium access costing around £2.45.

The technology asks its users for a variety of details ranging from what ingredients are readily available to them, what flavours they like and even particulars on their family background to create the most personalised recipes.

One of the features even offers a specialised bot that can produce recipes based on the user’s nutrient requirements.
