Shake-up: New Barclays boss CS Venkatakrishnan
The new boss of Barclays has reshuffled his top team having taken the helm following the shock departure of Jes Staley last week.
CS Venkatakrishnan, who is known as ‘Venkat’, appointed Paul Compton as head of the investment banking business.
Compton was previously co-head of the investment bank with Venkat under Staley. The trio had worked together at JP Morgan before joining Barclays.
The bank plunged into crisis when Staley stood down after a dispute with financial regulators over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Before Staley joined in 2015, he was Epstein’s banker at JP Morgan.
The new chief also named Alistair Currie as head of consumer banking and payments business, with Ashok Vaswani moving to a role as chief digital strategy officer.
Venkat said: ‘I consider myself very fortunate to take on my new role with a world-class team alongside me.
‘We will work closely together on not only delivering an outstanding product and service set for our customers and clients, but in accelerating our growth and shareholder value.’
