Soho House’s membership waiting list has hit a high of 95,000.
The private members’ clubs group said its membership continued to ‘reach new highs’, thanks to its record waiting list.
Soho House & Company was launched in Soho, London, where its first venue was opened on 40 Greek Street in 1995 by founder Nick Jones, promising ‘a home away from home for creatives’.
Now Soho House & Company boasts 176,305 members, a 24 per cent increase compared to the year before, and runs 40 clubs around the world.
Part of the empire is the pricey furniture retailer Soho Home, luxury Square Mile members’ club and hotel The Ned, Mayfair Italian restaurant Cecconi’s and the Cowshed spa. It has even expanded into the countryside with the launch of Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire.
Celebrities who frequent the clubs – which does not allow members and their guests to take pictures indoors – include Rita Ora, Fearne Cotton and Ellie Goulding.
Soho House was also a destination of choice for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they first started going out together in 2016.
The company plans to open clubs in Mexico City, Portland in Oregon, and Sao Paulo this year. A site in Manchester is also expected in 2024.
In an update covering the three months to the start of July, Soho House & Company said sales had risen 18.5 per cent to £227m. Profits were up to £25m, from £12m, moving its shares in New York up by more than 12 per cent yesterday – around 47 per cent below its debut price in July 2021.
Chief executive Andrew Carnie said: ‘We delivered another strong quarter of results with good membership growth and the highest quarter on quarter increase in our wait list since the first quarter of 2022.’
It can take months to get a membership, which can cost more than £1,000, although well-connected individuals can get bumped up the list if they already know a member.
Last year, founder Jones announced he was stepping down as the boss of Soho House after 27 years steering the group to global success.
