AMAZON UK, Very, John Lewis, Asda, ShopTo and eBuyer are all rumoured to have PS5 drops lined up over the next week.

And GAME looks likely to follow suit from April 6-8, say tipsters on social media.

In fact, April looks set to be a big month for PS5 restocks.

Insiders claim console availability will be “good” after a “dry spell” at the end of March.

Rumours continue that Amazon is about to make a large drop of PS5 consoles any day now.

There are also hopes that stores like Very and John Lewis will also get their hands on the in-demand consoles in the first week of April.

MSTVTweets said: “Seems like a dry spell is ahead of us, but April will be good.”

And there are whispers from stock tracking sites claiming consoles will land at GAME in the coming week – although, as always, nothing is guaranteed.

  • PETITION TO END SCALPING

An online petition calling for an end to he buying and reselling of goods/services at inflated prices – known as scalping – has reached 17,887.

It reads: “I believe it to be an unfair and unjust practice that well funded groups/individuals can deplete the stock of a single item and make it unaffordable/unavailable to the average consumer.

“I believe the law around this practice needs to be reviewed and measures to prevent it need to be introduced.

“This practice is most prevalent in the buying and re-selling of event tickets but also has a significant impact on the sales of trainers/clothes and technology. The most recent case in point is the launch of the PlayStation 5 and X Box Series X consoles.

“Both pre-orders and launch day stock were sold out instantaneously and then thousands of listings appeared on eBay at over double the RRP. A reseller group claimed to have been able to secure 3500 of these.”

The PS5 shortage could get worse as chip-makers struggle to meet demand.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been largely out of stock since November – and might not be widely available until July.

Much of this is being blamed on a global “crisis” in the computer chip world.

Demand for chips is through the roof, and suppliers can’t keep pace.

Prices of chips are rising as a result, and major manufacturers like Apple and Samsung are being prioritised.

“The first thing you’ll notice with our next-gen VR controller is the unique design, which takes on an ‘orb’ shape that allows you to hold the controller naturally, while playing with a high degree of freedom,” writes Sony’s Hideaki Nishino in a March 2021 PS5 blog post.

It adds: “There are no constraints with how you’re moving your hands, providing developers with the ability to create unique gameplay experiences.

“We also designed the new controller with great ergonomics in mind, so it’s well-balanced and comfortable to hold in each of your hands.

“We applied learnings from testing users with a range of hand sizes, as well as the decades of insights from controllers across all PlayStation platforms.

“The result is an iconic design that will change how VR games are played.”

  • NEXT-GEN VR ON PS5 – NEW CONTROLLER

Following Sony’s recent reveal of its next-generation virtual reality system for PS5, more details have emerged, courtesy of Sony’s Hideaki Nishino in a blog post.

Nishino wrote in March 2021: “I’m excited to unveil more details about the new controller that will play a critical role in providing gamers with the VR experience we’re working to deliver.

“Our new VR controller speaks to our mission of achieving a much deeper sense of presence and stronger feeling of immersion in VR experiences.

“It will build upon the innovation we introduced with the DualSense wireless controller, which changed how games ‘feel’ on PS5 by unlocking a new way to tap into the sense of touch. Now we’re bringing that innovation to VR gaming.”

  • VIRTUALLY REAL FOR SONY…CONTINUED

The original PSVR – which also plugs into the PS5 – lets players immerse themselves in virtual reality games processed through their console.

Starting at £260, players can bolster their set-up by paying for extra gear in the form of special VR controllers, which ship for £70 for a pair.

In a recent blog post, Nishino revealed that Sony is developing a new version of the PlayStation Move controller for the PSVR 2.

The joypad will incorporate “some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller” packaged with the PS5, he said.

Nishino said that the new headset would connect to the PS5 via a single cable to simplify set-up and make the gear easier to use.

  • VIRTUALLY REAL FOR SONY

Sony has vowed to plough ahead with virtual reality on the PS5.

The firm first launched PSVR back in 2016, adding VR functionality to the PS4.

Then, in February 2021, Sony confirmed that a new version of PSVR would be arriving soon.

“Our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience,” Sony’s Hideaki Nishino wrote in a blog post.

Amazon UK, Very, John Lewis, Asda, ShopTo and eBuyer are believed to have PS5 drops lined up for this week, reckons a hopeful @PS5StockAlertUK on Twitter.

Astria Ascending will launch on the PS5, Xbox and Nintendo Switch later this year.

“In Astria Ascending, we wanted to explore how people cope in extraordinary times,” said Artisan Studios game director Julien Bourgeois. “Each hero has their own perspective, but it’s the relationships they form with one another that truly brings the story to life.”

Dear Villagers head of publishing Guillamet Jamet added, “Seeing this world come together has been a delight. And it’s an honor to have so many legends on the team helping out—like a childhood dream come true. Astria Ascending is more than an homage to the classics. It’s the perfect next step in our publishing line of ambitious JRPGs,” VG Chartz reported.

According to Dolby’s website, Dolby vision provides “the most realistic and lifelike visuals” a game has to offer.

  • JOE BIDEN SUPERCHARGES CHIP MANUFACTURING IN US

Sony Corp CFO Hiroki Totoki says it is difficult for the company to increase production of the PS5 amid the shortage of semiconductors.

A global semiconductor chip shortage has caused a major delay in manufacturing activity.

This has seen automakers cut down on production and electronic device makers struggle to keep pace with a pandemic-led surge in demand for phones, TVs and gaming consoles.

The scarcity has prompted US President Joe Biden to sign an executive order to address the issue, after he pledged to seek $37billion in funding for legislation to supercharge chip manufacturing in America.

  • PLAYSTATION 5 STOCK LIKELY HELD UP ON EVER GIVEN

It is believed that new stocks of the Playstation 5 have been held up by the blockade on the Suez Canal.

Business Insider pointed out in its report on the ship’s situation that consumer electronics like video game consoles are usually built in factories in Asia, and then taken to other markets via maritime routes.

According to Gaming Bible, there is a concurrent shortage of semiconductors that are used in a variety of electronic devices like televisions, cars, laptops, phones, and digital cameras.

The companies that make semiconductors are now doing their best to catch up with the demand as a result of the shortage, which was caused by the pandemic.

The Suez Canal, an artificial waterway that connects the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, is one of the biggest trade routes for countless industries and facilitates approximately 12% of total trade around the world.
