SHORTAGES of the PS5 and Xbox Series X could continue well into the summer, insiders have warned.

It’s grim news for any gamers that still haven’t managed to bag a next-gen console.

Since their launch in November, the new PS5 and Xbox have been largely sold out.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft has been able to keep up with rampant demand.

Now chip-maker AMD – who supplies both firms – has warned that the shortages may continue.

As spotted by Tom’s Hardware, AMD’s latest investor report confirms the company is struggling to meet demand for chips.

AMD’s chief Lisa Su said that many of these shortages relate specifically to gaming hardware.

But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, according to Lisa.

“We do see some tightness through the first half of the year,” the AMD boss explained.

“But there’s added capacity in the second half.”

That likely means the shortages will be over by July.

However, it doesn’t guarantee that PS5 and Xbox Series X console will be suddenly abundant – as they depend on many different components.

It’s also possible that console shortages end even sooner, if demand dries up before summer.

Sony launched two versions of the PlayStation 5 in the US on November 12, and in the UK on November 19.

The full PS5 costs £449/$499, while a Digital Edition without a disc tray is priced at £359/$399.

They’re up against the Xbox Series X (£449) and Xbox Series S (£249), which hit shelves worldwide November 10.

All four consoles have been sold out around the world, with stock seesawing in and out of availability over the past few weeks.

The PS5 launched with major exclusive games like Spider-Man Miles Morales and a revamped version of Dark Souls for players to enjoy.

Xbox gamers, on the other hand, have a new Halo title to look forward to later this year.

In other news, The Sun’s favourite alternative to a games console is the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

Grab a VR headset and you’ll be able to play the legendary Beat Saber – like Guitar Hero, but with lightsabers.

And Dell’s Alienware R10 Ryzen Edition is a gaming PC powerhouse that crushes both the new consoles.
