Fake brand pages have been created to encourage shoppers to believe they are genuine, and have tens of thousands of likes.

They offer free items, vouchers or food from the companies CEO as a “gesture of goodwill” in the run up to Christmas.

The scammers then direct message anyone who commented on the post or shared it, asking them to sign up with their personal information.

According to the fraudsters they will receive a free voucher, but the token is fake and not redeemable in any of the stores.

The scam has previously targeted other popular chains such as Primark, Wagamama, Wetherspoons and supermarkets.

Police from a Cyber Crime unit have said: “You’re not signing up for a voucher.

“You’re just giving away a lot of information, and possibly even your hard earned cash.

“You can tell this page is a fake once you actually visit it. Looking at the number of likes, and the date it was created, it just doesn’t add up.

“The genuine Wagamama page is significantly older, and much more popular.”

A spokesman for Toby Carvery said: “Unfortunately there has been an upsurge in fake Facebook pages being created with the core aim of collecting contact and payment details from people.

“Please note, we have taken the necessary steps and reported this page and any others for violating Facebook’s Community Standards.

“However, sometimes these pages stay active for longer than they should so please be cautious. If you encounter these pages, please do not engage and report the page as soon as you can.”

A spokesman for Primark added: “We have been made aware of some social media posts from fake accounts offering Primark Competitions, Giveaways, Vouchers/Goodie Bags.

“We can confirm we have no connection to these accounts and are working hard to have them removed.

“For peace of mind, our official Primark accounts have a blue verified tick next to them and we would never ask for your personal information in this way.”
